Guwahati, April 4: Delegations from various international election management organizations are set to arrive in Assam for a two-day observation period starting April 8, ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections.
The visiting representatives will come from countries including Angola, Bhutan, Egypt, Portugal, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Benin, and Croatia, as stated in an official announcement.
This visit is part of the International Election Visitors' Programme (IEVP).
The elections for all 126 constituencies in Assam are scheduled for April 9, with vote counting taking place on May 4.
On April 8, the first day of their visit, the delegates will participate in comprehensive briefings led by Assam's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).
They will also tour dispatch centers and control rooms to evaluate the preparations and logistics for the elections.
On the election day, April 9, the international observers will visit selected districts to monitor various polling stations. They will observe the voting process, security measures, and the use of election technology.
This initiative aims to give foreign observers a direct insight into India's electoral framework, showcasing its extensive scale, transparency, and effectiveness.
Additionally, it seeks to foster international collaboration and share best practices in election management among the participating nations.
