Mamata Banerjee Demands Resignation of PM Modi Amid Election Tensions
Mamata Banerjee's Strong Words Against PM Modi
Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the Trinamool Congress and Chief Minister of West Bengal, has called for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's resignation during the ongoing election campaign. She criticized Modi in light of threats made by Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif regarding Kolkata. Banerjee questioned why the Prime Minister has not addressed this issue in his rallies in Bengal, asking why he has not taken a firm stance after such threats were made. She stated that Modi should resign for his inaction.
As the election atmosphere heats up, a verbal clash continues between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). PM Modi and various BJP leaders have been leveling numerous accusations against the TMC government. Meanwhile, the TMC has been alleging that the BJP is manipulating the central election commission to create various irregularities in the state. They have also attempted to make the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) a significant issue in the West Bengal elections.
Mamata Banerjee Questions PM Modi's Silence
During an election rally in Nadia district, Banerjee remarked, 'You (the Prime Minister) target Bengal in your election rallies, yet when Pakistan threatens Bengal, you remain silent. You should resign.' She made these comments a day after Modi's rally in Cooch Behar, questioning why he did not raise this critical issue during his speech. 'When the Defense Minister of Pakistan states they will attack Kolkata, why did the Prime Minister not declare that we will take strict action?' she asked.
In her remarks aimed at PM Modi, Banerjee emphasized, 'Just as we do not tolerate any threats to our country, we will not accept threats made against Kolkata.' In this charged election environment, she is directly challenging the Prime Minister on his silence regarding this matter.
The context of her statements stems from a warning issued by Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, who stated on Saturday that any future acts of aggression from India would be met with a response targeting Kolkata. Asif, speaking to reporters in Sialkot, warned, 'If India tries to hold us accountable and conducts any military operation, we will aim for Kolkata.'
