Kejriwal Urges PM Modi to Reconsider E20 Petrol for Older Vehicles

Kejriwal's Appeal to the Prime Minister

Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former Chief Minister of Delhi, has reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a request to reassess the use of E20 petrol in vehicles not designed for ethanol-blended fuel. In his letter, Kejriwal highlighted that older vehicles experience reduced mileage and quicker engine wear when using E20 petrol, placing an additional financial burden on owners of cars and two-wheelers manufactured before 2023.

Concerns Over E20 Petrol

Kejriwal urged petrol stations to provide customers with a choice between pure petrol and E20-blended fuel. He also called for a reduction in the price of E20 petrol, arguing that its lower calorific value results in decreased mileage. During a press conference on Tuesday, he stated, "I have appealed to Prime Minister Modi to lower the price of E20 fuel; since it offers less mileage, its cost should also be reduced... I have also requested a meeting with him."

Encouraging Public Voices

He encouraged those facing difficulties due to E20 petrol to share their experiences on digital platforms. Kejriwal emphasized the importance of public voices in drawing government attention to these issues, stating, "I urge everyone affected by these problems to create videos and post them on social media, as the government may not listen to us easily."

Earlier on Saturday, Kejriwal visited a petrol pump and service station in Delhi to discuss the impact of E20-blended petrol with vehicle owners. He claimed that the government's assertions regarding this fuel do not align with consumer experiences.
